This concert is an intimate, behind the scenes portrait of the life and music of two of Downey's most famous residents, Karen and Richard Carpenter; who became one of the most successful recording arts of all time. This concert kicks off the Theatre's 2016-2017 season, has toured to rave reviews and sold out audiences. "We've only Just Begun: Carpenter's Remembered" concert, is the definitive celebration of the Carpenters' songbook and an intimate behind-the-scenes portrait of one of the most successful recording acts of all time. Led by Michelle Berting Brett and accompanied by a live, 7-piece Nashville band directed by Harry Sharpe, the show re-creates the Carpenter's original sound.
As part of the 60th anniversary of Downey's incorporation as an independent city, an open house, free to the public, will take place from 5:30-6:30 prior to the concert. During this time, patrons can view the refurbished lobby and beautiful new restrooms. Other Theatre improvements to the facility include, an upgraded sound system and multi-media projector. In addition, dramatic and artistic banners will adorn the façade, giving the Downey Theatre a whole new look!
The Open house activities include complimentary hor d'oeurvres and no-host bar, a multi-media presentation and Art Exhibit celebrating Downey's history, self-guided tours of the Theatre, and live music in the lobby and Patio.
